Boat Landing Monitor
The Windigo Lake Property Owners Association (WLPOA), a non-profit organization, seeks one or more individuals to serve as Boat Landing Monitors at the Windigo Lake landing on Highline Road, Sawyer County. This role is a key component of the Clean Boats, Clean Waters (CBCW) program, which aims to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS).
Position Details:
- Type: Part-Time (Seasonal)
- Schedule: Weekdays, weekends, and holidays from ice-out/fishing opener through Labor Day. Shifts during early mornings, late afternoons, and peak boat traffic hours.
- Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience; no additional benefits.
- Training: Completion of a paid AIS prevention training session (provided).
Primary Responsibilities
- Boat and Trailer Inspections: Check boats and trailers entering the lake for signs of aquatic invasive species.
- Boater Education: Engage with boaters to inform them about AIS prevention methods and share educational materials while ensuring boaters know how to operate the Windigo Lake Boat Wash Station.
- Compliance: Ensure boaters wash boats, ballasts (if applicable), and trailers before launching boats into Windigo Lake.
- Data Collection and Reporting: Track interactions with boaters, maintain accurate records, and submit online reports by established deadlines.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to learn and convey AIS information effectively
- Ability to complete written reports and enter data online accurately
- Reliability and ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
Preferred:
- Experience with boating, fishing, or frequent lake use
- Interest in conservation and protecting local waterways from invasive species

- Multiple hires may be considered to provide full coverage during the season.
